Supporters from across the community pledged over $200,000 in matching gifts for the 160 Year Scholarship Appeal ahead of Giving Day on 11 June in support of two means tested scholarships – one at the St Kilda Road Campus (potentially via Elsternwick) and one at the Glen Waverley Campus.
Every dollar donated on the day helped expand access to a Wesley education for students of talent, character and potential who would not otherwise have the opportunity to access a Wesley education.
Current parent, Jenny Wong, said:
‘Scholarships are important because they help young people build a solid foundation for the future. The socio-economic context for today's students and families has changed and we are happy to contribute in a way that we can.'
Among those supporting the initiative is Nuline Charter, whose relationship with Wesley spans many years.
'Nuline Charter has always had a strong commitment to philanthropy and supporting the Wesley College Giving Day allow us to give back to the Wesley community who places their trust in us. We see great value in a quality education through the way it empowers young people and can help create opportunities to produce the next generation of leaders for our community.
A teacher and past parent who also pledged support shared a similar sentiment.
‘Wesley's values are something I have lived both professionally and personally. Having entrusted my own child's education to the College, I know the difference a Wesley education can make. I am proud to support scholarships that help ensure bright, capable students can access these opportunities, even when financial barriers exist.’
We look forward to sharing the results of Giving Day and celebrating the collective impact of a community investing in future generations.
