Scholarships FAQs

Understanding scholarships

Wesley offers Academic Excellence, General Excellence and Boarding scholarships as well as Founders’ Day Scholarships and W.C. Webster Scholarship. Please review the individual scholarship pages, which outline specific eligibility criteria.

Applications open in Term 4, 2026.

Applications close at 5:00pm on Friday, 29 January 2027.

There is no fixed number. The number awarded varies each year depending on the strength of applications.

Scholarships are awarded on merit and are also informed by the personal and financial circumstances that families share through the application process. Some scholarships are only open to candidates who would not be able to attend Wesley without financial support. This opportunity requires candidates to validate the level of support needed. The information provided through a dedicated form allows us to assess need and identify support to families in relation to their personal means.

If you would like to be considered for a means-tested scholarship, please indicate this on your application. Shortlisted applicants who have done so will be emailed a means-testing form. Please complete and return it promptly, as your application cannot progress until we receive it.

Eligibility

Scholarships are available to Australian citizens and permanent residents who meet the eligibility criteria.  Scholarships are not available to international students.

Both new and current Wesley students may apply, subject to the requirements of each scholarship.

How to apply

All applicants complete the same Scholarship Application form. The College then considers each applicant for scholarships they are eligible for, based on their year level, campus, and application.

While there is one application form for all scholarships, each scholarship has its own selection criteria.  We encourage families to carefully review the eligibility requirements and ensure their application includes all relevant information and supporting documentation for the scholarships they wish to be considered for.

Yes. Achievement in APS sport can be one or more of your selected areas of excellence, but it must be supported by academic performance. Applicants are assessed on their whole application, including school reports, NAPLAN, EduTest results and the level of achievement in the area/s of excellence demonstrated by measurable standards. Wesley does not offer a separate sports scholarship. Please refer to the General Excellence scholarship page for a guide to sporting achievements by age group.

Yes. Musical achievement can be one or more of your selected areas of excellence, but it must be supported by academic performance. Applicants are assessed on their whole application, including school reports, NAPLAN, EduTest results and the level of achievement in the area/s of excellence demonstrated by measurable standards. Wesley does not offer a separate music scholarship. Please refer to the General Excellence scholarship page for a guide to music achievement by AMEB grades or equivalent.

Applicants whose application highlights musical achievement may be asked to perform at an audition. The College will provide audition arrangements and requirements during the selection process. In some instances, this may include arranging for your child to have an accompanist at their audition.

Preparing your application

Start gathering the required documents well before applications close. Depending on your child’s circumstances, you may need:

  • Semester 1 and Semester 2, 2026 school reports.
  • Your child’s most recent NAPLAN results
  • A recent photograph
  • A birth certificate
  • Evidence of permanent residency, where applicable
  • Evidence of your child’s achievements and participation
  • Letters of recommendation from teachers, coaches, music tutors or other relevant referees, where applicable
  • A student statement or portfolio, where required
  • A personal written statement demonstrating the candidate's understanding of ROAR (Respect, Opportunity, Achievement and Resilience), reflecting on a personal experience that illustrates their learning and wellbeing.

Once you have all the documentation, commence the application process and complete before 5:00pm on Friday, 29th January 2027.

Supporting documents should highlight your child’s achievements, ongoing commitment and sustained involvement in pursuits that align with the relevant scholarship criteria and your child’s potential to contribute to the Wesley College community.

Where references are required, choose someone who knows your child’s abilities and involvement well. References should provide specific examples of their achievements and contribution.

Where a student statement is required, your child should write it in their own words. It should explain their interests, achievements, why they want to attend Wesley and how they hope to contribute to the College community. It needs to be authentic and demonstrate their understanding and thinking. It should be their work only, and parent involvement or AI tools should be discouraged.

No. Please check that your application is complete before submitting it as reports, references, certificates or achievements sent afterwards will not be accepted. This does not apply to information the College requests during the selection process, such as means-testing documents.

No. Your child may apply again the following year, if they remain eligible.

Yes.  However, the College reserves the right to determine the campus at which a scholarship is offered, so your preferred campus cannot be guaranteed. Some named scholarships are offered only at a specific campus, as listed on the relevant scholarship page.

Testing and assessment

For 2028 entry, all Academic Excellence, General Excellence and Boarding scholarship applicants must sit one test administered by EduTest. Registration instructions and the test date will be provided as part of the application process.

Yes. EduTest registration is a separate process. After you submit your Wesley College scholarship application, you will be provided with a link to the EduTest registration page on the confirmation screen and in your confirmation email.  You must log in to EduTest to register for the Test. We recommend you do this as part of the process.

The scholarship application costs a total of $120.

The EduTest assessment covers verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, reading comprehension, mathematics and written expression. EduTest provides information about the test format and online practice materials.

Families who live interstate or in rural or regional Victoria should contact EduTest about remote testing arrangements. Alternative test dates are not available. Families living overseas should contact EduTest to confirm the arrangements available to them.

Interviews and selection

No. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview with the Head of Campus or their delegate. Interviews may be held in person or by video conference, depending on the applicant’s location from March 2027 onwards.

No. Interviews and auditions form part of the selection process and assist in providing further insights into the candidate, their educational aspirations through Wesley College and the opportunities they have identified. Being interviewed does not guarantee a scholarship offer, or value of scholarship that may be offered. Scholarships at Wesley College are merit-based, and some are means-tested.

Yes, as these are merit based, candidates will be considered from the same family.  All scholarship assessments will be considered including financial circumstances, the strengths of the application, and the other candidates in the given year of application.

Offers and outcomes

All Applicants will be advised of the outcome during Term 2, 2027. EduTest results are not released to families, and individual feedback is not provided to unsuccessful applicants. Eligible students are welcome to apply again in the future.

We retain applications for further consideration, as changes in scholarship acceptances may allow us to make additional offers. Your child’s application may therefore remain under consideration while allocations are finalised, although this does not guarantee an offer.

Scholarship value and conditions

Wesley College assesses the merit of individual candidates, their financial means and the prize pool available annually. Scholarship awards are a recognition of the calibre of the individual student and the contribution they can make to the Wesley community during their time as a student. Wesley College does not enter into negotiation regarding the value of a scholarship offered. Families are asked to consider the school/s they believe best fits their child and their skills and talents.

Boarding Scholarships are considered in relation to place availability as well.

Scholarships do not cover personal items such as uniforms, books, music lessons, levies, camps and tours. These charges are payable separately. Any additional assistance will be specified in the offer.

Recipients are expected to maintain strong academic performance, contribute actively to College life and meet the conditions of their scholarship.

Scholarships are awarded with the expectation that students will complete Year 12 at Wesley College. If a student leaves earlier, the College may require repayment of part or all of the scholarship, in accordance with the scholarship terms and conditions.

Scholarships generally apply from the awarded entry year through to the completion of Year 12, subject to the conditions set out in the offer.

The College reviews a recipient’s academic performance, participation and contribution annually to ensure the scholarship conditions str being met. Means-tested assistance may also be reviewed if the family’s financial circumstances change.

Enrolment and accepting an offer

No. Scholarship and enrolment applications are separate processes. Families may pursue both at the same time but must complete the relevant application for each.

Yes. Your child may apply for a scholarship even if you have already accepted a place at Wesley, provided they meet the scholarship eligibility criteria.

Successful applicants will receive a letter of offer by email, confirming the scholarship value, conditions and acceptance requirements. To accept a scholarship offer, families must sign and return the required documents and pay any applicable acceptance fees by the deadline stated in the offer.  The College does not hold offers open beyond the acceptance date and encourages applicants to consider carefully the school that is best for their child ahead of sitting the scholarship.
