This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Sapere Aude Bequest Society – a lasting reflection of the generosity and vision that have helped shape Wesley College across generations.
Established by the Wesley College Foundation in 1996, the Society was created to recognise and thank those who chose to leave a Gift in Will to the College. What began as a thoughtful initiative has grown into a valued community, united by a belief in the power of education and a shared commitment to Wesley’s future.
From its earliest days, the Society has been guided by dedicated individuals. Under the leadership of Foundation Chair Graeme Samuel AC (OW1963), and with the support of staff including Douglas Butler, Helen Kroger (Cato MLC) and Kenneth Park, the program developed strong foundations. Its welcoming spirit has been shaped by patrons such as founding Co Patrons Joan Coates and Gordon Newton OAM (OW1950), along with supporters including Jean Oldfield, Peter Boag (OW1963), and current Co Patrons Peter Harrison (OW1969) and Susie Rodgers-Wilson.
Today, more than 300 members have included Wesley in their Wills. Their generosity has strengthened scholarships, libraries, buildings and learning environments, ensuring students continue to benefit from a rich and inspiring education.
Kenneth Park, who served Wesley for nearly forty years, has witnessed this impact firsthand. His own decision to leave a gift in his Will reflects a deep respect for the College’s past and a commitment to its future.
