RoboCup Junior Australian Championships

Robocup

During the recent school holidays, three students from St Kilda Road competed in the Australian Robotics Championships in Sydney. They competed in eight rounds of competition over two days. At the end of the first day the Wesley Wobots, comprising Louie Zhao (Year 5) and Alfredo Chang-Gonzales (Year 6), were positioned in first place in the Primary Rescue Division. In an extremely close competition, by the end of the final days’ competition, they were placed a magnificent 6th place from 47 teams from around Australia.

From the results it is obvious there was not much separating 2nd to 6th place and each of those teams was very close indeed.

In the Secondary Rescue Division, Leo Qiao (Year 8), competed as an individual against teams from across Australia. He finished a credible 10th place from 46 teams. This was a great result as he had to solve all the problems on his own, without the assistance of other teammates, unlike his competitors.

The students had a wonderful time and learnt to solve new challenges “on the spot” - a great tool for later years of their education.
