| Service details | The third battle of Gaza finally saw the British (with its empire troops) finally take Gaza on 7 November 1917. Australians know the Beersheba part just prior to that battle being the 31 October 1917 charge by the light horse to secure the wells in that town. The army moved on to take Gaza. On 6 November the 2/16 London Battalion was involved in action that resulted in only a few casualties, but it included Edmonstone who received a wound to the stomach. He died at the 65th clearing casualty station at Imara, just a few miles north of Beersheba on the following day. |
