At Wesley’s Glen Waverley Campus, our Prep program offers the perfect start to your child’s school journey. Through a balanced, inquiry-based approach rooted in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP), students develop the curiosity, confidence and foundational skills they need to thrive. Our classrooms are joyful, safe and inclusive spaces where every child feels known, supported and empowered to grow.
What makes Prep at Wesley different?
Personalised attention through small class sizes

With two educators to a maximum of 24 students during morning sessions, we ensure that every child is seen and supported. This high educator-to-student ratio enables authentic, responsive teaching tailored to each learner’s needs. Our compassionate and student-centred approach builds strong partnerships between teachers, students and families - nurturing trust, belonging and a deep love of learning. These relationships allow us to closely monitor each child’s growth and celebrate their individual progress.
Literacy and numeracy – laying the foundations

Establishing strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics is the key to future success. At Wesley, daily explicit lessons in literacy and numeracy are followed by small-group sessions (up to five students) to provide targeted instruction. This blend of whole-class and individualised teaching ensures your child engages meaningfully with key concepts, develops confidence and experiences success in essential skills. These skills are nurtured through hands-on, meaningful learning that supports children’s agency and critical thinking.
A world-class IB education begins in Prep

Wesley is an authorised IB World School offering the PYP from ECLC through to Year 6. In Prep, the IB’s inquiry-led model taps into young learners’ natural curiosity, allowing them to explore broad ideas through real-world contexts. Concepts such as change, connection and responsibility underpin each unit of inquiry, helping children make sense of the world and their place in it from an early age. This foundation sets the stage for globally minded, compassionate learners who can think deeply and act responsibly.
Wellbeing at the heart of learning

Wesley’s approach is holistic, ensuring the development of the whole child. Through our integrated learning and wellbeing program, students develop the tools, language and emotional intelligence skills needed to understand themselves and others. Wellbeing is supported by Addi the therapy dog, who resides at our Glen Waverley Junior School Campus and provides excellent emotional support to students, helping them develop important skills such as perseverance and resilience.
Specialist programs for movement, creativity and discovery

Each week, children expand their learning through specialist programs including Music, Dance and Drama, Art, Library and our Perceptual Motor program, led by highly experienced subject teachers. These sessions not only build important skills in creativity, movement and literacy, but give children the chance to explore their unique interests and talents. Engaging with specialist teachers from Prep helps to lay the groundwork for confidence, independence and a love of learning across different disciplines.
Language and international mindedness

International mindedness is a central theme of the IB and is developed through language acquisition and cultural learning. Our Prep to Year 4 students learn French through listening, speaking, reading, writing and presenting. From Year 5, students can choose Chinese or French. Early language learning helps children develop strong communication skills and an appreciation for different ways of thinking and living. Through songs, stories, games and cultural celebrations, students build confidence in language while developing respect for the world around them.
Onsite swimming lessons

Weekly swimming lessons are held onsite in our purpose-built campus pool, led by our own qualified and experienced staff. Children are grouped by ability and taught in fun, age-appropriate sessions that build confidence and teach vital water safety and swimming skills, such as floating, kicking and breath control. These lessons are an important part of our physical education program, ensuring every child feels confident, capable and safe in the water.
A space where young learners thrive

Prep students benefit from access to the Glen Waverley Campus' extensive facilities, including the library, gymnasium, ovals, swimming pool and music rooms, making their learning experience rich, active and well-rounded from day one. Weekly visits to the library keep Prep students engaged in literacy and help them to develop a lifelong love of reading.
A smooth transition to Middle School

Our Prep learners grow up with access to world-class facilities and consistent curriculum through the PYP. With a seamless connection to Middle School (Years 5–9) and a dedicated Year 4 leadership program, your child will move forward with independence and confidence, excited and ready for the next stage of their educational journey. Our continuous focus on learner agency and voice helps students take increasing ownership of their education as they mature.
