At the heart of an IB education is the commitment to positive action that has the potential to improve the future for others. At the Elsternwick Campus, our young people continue to raise awareness and meaningfully contribute to their local community.
Our partnership with the Richmond Churches Food Centre has continued to grow in 2024, with the school community embracing the centre and working hard to support them in this time of need. The annual ‘Canstruction’ event was a big hit, with students across the Middle School coming together in their houses to create an ‘Under the Sea’ theme which was quite the spectacle! All cans collected were donated to the Food Centre, which provides hundreds of people with food every week.
We also came together to wear ‘A Touch of Yellow’ for National Sorry Day. The campus was abuzz with activities that made us reflect on the ways in which we can make a difference on our journey towards authentic reconciliation.
In Term 3, the Middle School celebrated ‘Jersey Day’. Students put aside their sporting allegiances, donning jerseys from a variety of sporting codes to support organ and tissue donation.
We look forward to ‘The Great Book Swap’, run by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, later this year. This event encourages our community to come together through a shared love of reading. All proceeds go to supporting the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and the great work it does providing for remote communities in Australia.
Our young people certainly care about the world they live in and inspire all of us to make a difference, wherever and whenever we can, every day.
